MEET THE ARTIST AT THE MALIBU FINE ARTS FESTIVAL
JULY 26TH & 27TH, 2008

Tim Hovde's history in the arts is intricately tied to his life as a painter.

Tim Hovde grew up in Minot, North Dakota, between hills and valleys and next to a major river. He really loved the natural environment at the town of his childhood. He, then, discovered that he had a natural talent for music when he started studying trumpet. He studied jazz and classical music for eight years.

His father, a professional portrait and event photographer, introduced him to photography at a very early age. As an avid photographer, he began experimenting with paint and other mixed media on canvas, wood, & paper. He found that he was able to translate images from his memory and photographs onto canvas.

He moved to Arizona in 1992 where he found a warmer climate, a better market for his abstract artwork and where he is now a full time artist. His work is shown in galleries and museums, holds group and solo shows. His work is in private collections in the United States and Europe.

"I grew up immersed in the world of art, music and photography. This was my education to becoming the painter I am today. Music is the instrument that moves me to such strong emotions that must be let out upon the canvas. It is as if I am conducting a symphony between the brush and canvas without any limitations."

"The images that end up on my canvases are largely from the sketches, photographs and memories brought back from the places I visit."

A quote by Robert Rauschenberg sums it up best, "I think you're born an artist or not. I couldn't have learned it. And I hope I never do because knowing more only encourages your limitations."
