Daily Photo #21

Boy on the Edge

A note about this photo from the artist: Boy on the Edge - Hole in the Rock, Phoenix, AZ 1990's "This is a portrait of sorts.  Like so many photographs I've taking, this was shot with a real film camera.  In fact this is two photographs on one negative.  The first shot is in focus and the second sometimes not.  The first photo empty and then filled in the second.  One needed a special camera to do it and I had it.  My Canon EOS Rebel.  I continued to take double negatives over time, because of the risk and chance aspect of the result.  You really never knew what you would get in the end.  As time went on, I became very good  at taking doubles, triples, sometimes four photos on one negative.  Real cameras were then phased out and now we are all stuck with instant perfection and/or gratification.  I suppose there is one benefit to all of this; the end of the detrimental chemicals, film and paper.  Perhaps this is a needed thing or progress?  I will always remember the feeling  of taking real photographs and the certain fact of getting a negative that no one else on earth could ever get again."  Tim Hovde
